ABOUT US
The Beginning
Our founder's career in architectural design began in the dynamic, chaotic and competitively pressurized world of large tract home building back in the 1990s. This crucial period was marked by learning the ins and outs of the design and construction process for residential and light commercial construction.
Mentored by experienced and seasoned professionals helped to build a solid foundation and knowledge base. This collaboration resulted in the design and construction of numerous neighbourhoods, shopping malls, homes, and light commercial use buildings across Ottawa, Ontario. While the results of this work and effort went unrecognized in the name of the creator, never the less, the opportunity laid the foundation for a career in residential architecture.
Learning the Ropes of the Canadian Construction Industry
During these early years, our founder gained invaluable insights into the methods, materials, trades, and processes that form the backbone of Canada's construction industry.
This experience provided a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to transform architectural visions into tangible structures. The most important lesson learned was accountability to both the trades working on-site and the clients who envisioned the spaces created.
On-Site Experience: A Game-Changer
A pivotal moment in this journey was transitioning from the back office to being front and center in the field. Our founder was able to blend the roles of a construction site supervisor and the lead in-house architectural designer.
Here, our founder's vision for architecture was shaped by the artistic expression of producing designs and the lessons learned involving real-world interactions and feedback in the field. It's this combination of skills and experience that sets us apart.
Collaboration and Innovation
Working closely with skilled tradespeople, contractors, and project managers was instrumental in our founder's learning how and where to streamline construction processes, reduce waste, and enhance efficiency in the construction process.
This close collaboration yielded practical insights crucial in optimizing designs, increasing profitability and reducing time wasted. This led to increased client satisfaction and better-quality built projects. Our drawings mirror the information needed on-site.
The processes used to develop the drawings are continuously updated and tweaked to make use of the newest tools and information available. The result: build a quality product from start to finish.
Lessons Turned into Legacy
The learnings from this period are deeply embedded in our firm’s ethos. Processes drive quality.
Every project at The Language of Lines is approached with a blend of creative vision and practical wisdom. Our designs are aesthetically pleasing and optimized for functionality. The comfort, health and safety of our client's are the outcome.
